“Threads of Compassion” Prayer Shawl Ministry

"Threads of Compassion" Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Prayer Shawl Ministry creates beautiful shawls made by members and friends of First Presbyterian Church as a gift of love to the recipient. The shawl is meant to symbolize the love and embrace of God. Shawls can be given when undergoing medical procedures, as a comfort after loss or in times of stress, during bereavement, prayer or meditation, during an illness and recovery within our church and community. Volunteers are needed to knit and crochet (no experience necessary!). For more information please contact the church office at 785-537-0518.

The Backsnack Project!

The Backsnack Project!

The Backsnack Project partners with the Flint Hills Breadbasket to provide over 200 local children with food for the weekend. Our congregation helps to feed students who may not otherwise get the nutrition they need over the course of the weekend.

We don’t want anyone in our community to go hungry, especially our children. When our members and friends go grocery shopping, they can pick up one of the following items and drop them in one of the baskets located across from the lounge:

  • Juice boxes
  • Cracker packs
  • Boxes of raisins or other fruit, fruit snacks
  • Microwave cups of Mac’n’Cheese
  • Applesauce, fruit, or pudding cups.
  • NO nut products, please!
  • Individually wrapped items are best!

Please help us feed the children of our community!

Back to School Backpack Program

Back to School Backpack Program

Every summer the church buys a large quantity of backpacks for needy children. Then members of the church pick up an empty backpack, fill it with a variety of school supplies, and return them to the church so that they can be distributed to children of struggling families. This not only fills kids’ backpacks with necessary school supplies, but it also fills them with the confidence and hope that comes from Christian goodwill!
