WOMEN’S RETREAT “Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.” Ah, contentment! Are you satisfied with who you are, what you do, what you have, what you look like, etc., etc.? Most of us, unfortunately, have areas in our lives that we wish we could change – if even just a little bit. Why is it so hard to be content? As Christians, we have all we need. As humans, however, we tend to forget that. In our culture, we are constantly bombarded by images that tell us we should have more, be more, and want more. But spiritually, is that healthy?
On Friday evening, September 18 through Saturday afternoon, September 19, you are invited to attend our church sponsored Women’s Retreat at White Memorial Campground in Council Grove. The topic is “Contentment.” This will be a fun and inspirational event, devoted entirely to helping us, as women, better understand God’s Word and will for us as we seek the wealth of “true godliness with contentment.”
Our guest speaker will be Lisa Ingram, who facilitates many different types of women’s groups on subjects that include marriage and friendship. Lisa is the mother of two, and wife of Kevin Ingram, President of Manhattan Christian College. Rev. Vicky Shimp will lead us in music and an outdoor morning worship service. There will also be a book swap table for those interested in sharing or picking up a new read.
We plan on departing (caravan-style) from the Church at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. All meals will be provided, beginning with dinner upon arrival at camp. We are staying in a cabin that houses 32 (four rooms of eight beds), and are optimistic that you will help us to fill every sleeping space. The retreat will end by 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. (If you are unable to attend Friday night, but can join us for the Saturday session, please let us know and we will help work that out.)
Come find out what contentment is all about in an atmosphere of love and fun. This is a wonderful way to get better acquainted with your church family sisters in Christ – sharing life stories, as well as the joy of laughter. Please look for the sign-up table that will be set up for registration outside the sanctuary between and after services sometime in August. The cost for this retreat is $25.00; scholarships are available upon request.
