College Service Begins August 31th, 7:30 PM

4th - 6th Youth Fellowship - September 3, 2010
Beginning Friday, September 3 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, the 4th thru 6th graders will meet for fun and fellowship in the Youth Room. 

Annual Fall Family Picnic - September 19, 2010
The First Presbyterian Church Annual Fall Family Picnic will be held Sunday September 19, 2010.  Fun and games will begin at 5:00 PM with supper at 5:30 PM.  Please bring a potluck dish to serve 12, along with your own table service.  This is always a great get-together for our congregation, friends and family.

Freedom 5K Run and 1.5 Mile Fun Run/Walk - September 12, 2010
Back by popular demand.. the Freedom 5K Run and Walk will be held Sunday, September 12, 2010, 8:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, 801 Leavenworth, Manhattan, KS.

Bring the whole family.  Events include 5K Fun Run and Walk, 1.5 Mile Fun Run/Walk and a 1.5 Mile Youth Timed Run.  Cash prizes and door prize drawings for run participants; Kids Fun Zone for kids.  TShirts available to first 100 entrants.  Preregistration ends September 1, 2010.

Freedom 5K Race Volunteers Needed
Volunteers are needed on Sunday, September 12th, from 6:30 AM until 10:30 AM.  All volunteers will receive a Freedom 5K Race T-shirt.  40 volunteers are needed to serve as race route marshals, finish line assistants, and various other responsibilities. The "Prayers of Jesus" Study"
A four-week study of the life of Jesus.  Meeting with others to discuss the transforming power of Jesus Christ.  The study is led by Rev. McConnel on Wednesdays at 10:00 AM beginning September 15th thru October 6th, 2010. Please contact us to make your reservation.

Session

The Session of First Presyterian Church consists of the pastor and the elders in active service. All members of the session, including the pastor, are entitled to vote.  The session is resposible for the mission and government of the particular church. It, therefore, has the responsibility and power (The Book of Order):

  1. to provide opportunities for evangelism
  2. to receive members into the church
  3. to lead the congregation in participation in the mission of the whole Church
  4. to proivde for the worship of the people of God
  5. to proivde for the growth of its members
  6. to develop and supervise the church school and the educational program
  7. to challenge the people of God with the privilege of responsible Christian stewardship of money, time, and talents
  8. to establish the annual budget
  9. to delegate and to supervise the work of the board of deacons
  10. to provide for the administration of the program of the church, including employment of nonordained staff
  11. to maintain regular and continuing relationship to the higher governing bodies of the church
